Clara CFO Collective: CFO Support for Small Business Owners

Many business owners have been here before. You clean up the books, build a budget, or finish a finance course, and for a while everything feels under control. Then a few months later, you’ve drifted back into avoiding the numbers and reacting to whatever comes up. The problem usually isn’t a lack of information. It’s that nothing is holding the habit in place.

Clara CFO Collective

The Clara CFO Collective is a membership for small business owners who want ongoing, CFO-led support in managing their finances.

Membership Benefits

Members enjoy the following benefits:

  • Monthly coworking sessions
  • Community support
  • Office hours
  • Access to 1:1 CFO time
  • Financial Clarity 101, our self-study financial course

Together, these resources help make financial clarity an ongoing practice rather than a one-time project.

Why We Created the Clara CFO Collective

Our first group program, the Financial Clarity Accelerator (FCA), reinforced something important for us:

Learning the material and building the right financial tools is only part of the process.

Maintaining financial clarity also takes ongoing practice, accountability, and somewhere to turn when questions come up.

FCA participants built budgets, reworked their P&Ls, and became more confident about owner pay. Several also told us that accountability was one of the most valuable parts of the experience:

“I think one of the most valuable parts is having ongoing accountability and staying connected to a group of business owners who are actively working on improving their finances.”
Financial Clarity Accelerator Participant

“I’m feeling almost confident deciding what I’m going to pay myself instead of waiting to see how much money I have and hoping it works out.”
Financial Clarity Accelerator Participant

The Clara CFO Collective is built to keep that accountability going year-round. As part of the membership, members get access to Financial Clarity 101. This self-study course helps small business owners develop stronger financial skills and habits. It covers topics like budgeting, cash flow, pricing, KPIs, and monthly financial reviews using concepts and exercises adapted from our Financial Clarity Solution™.

Who the Clara CFO Collective Is For

The Clara CFO Collective is designed for owners who need more financial guidance than bookkeeping alone provides but aren’t yet at the point where ongoing fractional CFO services make sense.

It’s a strong fit if you:

  • Manage your own finances without financial leadership on your team
  • Want to make decisions based on your numbers rather than your gut alone
  • Have questions about pricing, cash flow, owner pay, and other financial decisions specific to your business
  • Do better with structure, accountability, and a community of other owners

This membership is intended for businesses generating under $2M in annual revenue. If your company has grown beyond that and needs ongoing financial leadership, our fractional CFO services may be the better fit.

A Look Inside Financial Clarity 101

To give you a sense of what members learn, here is a lesson from Financial Clarity 101 on building a quality business budget.

How to Build a Small Business Budget (Free Lesson from The Collective)

The lesson walks through eight parts of building a quality budget. That includes cleaning up your financial data, gathering the right inputs, planning owner compensation, setting a profit target, and building the final month-by-month projection.

Here are three principles that can help make your budget more useful:

  1. Plan for owner pay and profit first. Your budget should account for what you need to take from the business while still leaving enough profit for taxes, debt repayment, reinvestment, and savings. To learn more about how profit supports your business, read our guide on the 5 jobs of profit.
  2. Build estimates, not perfect predictions. Budgeting is an estimation exercise. A useful budget doesn’t need to predict the future perfectly. It needs to give you a realistic plan you can use to make decisions.
  3. Review budget vs. actuals every month. A budget earns its value when you compare it to actual results, ask why any line was off, and use what you learn to make better decisions.

Our fractional CFO services are an ongoing engagement in which a CFO provides financial leadership, forecasting, cash flow management, and decision support. The Collective focuses on education, accountability, and group support, with 1:1 CFO time available as needed.
